Moving Patient Data

Some organizations may find it necessary to move event data from one patient record to another (typically from an offshoot patient record to the patient’s “master” record). This is required if the ADTClosedAdmission, Discharge and Transfer data. system cannot merge facility-specific medical record numbers with a common patient identifier. It may also be required when an external lab does not provide the patient’s hospital identifier with the results. This process is sometimes referred to as “merging data” because it helps consolidate patient events in one patient record.

To move patient data:

  1. Warning: Make sure the “to” patient already exists (Locating Patients) and review any “from” patient files; if the event you are going to move is attached to a file, it must first be removed (Adding Event Attachments).
  2. Click on Patient Events and Activities from the patient menu of the patient whose records or patient identifier you would like to move (Patient Events and Activities).
  3. Click the menu item that contains the event you would like to move.
  4. Note: The act of moving a Patient Identifier (under Patient Detail) merges the two identifiers.
  5. Select the event you would like to move. The event details display on the right and the Move to Patient button activates.
  6. Click the Move to Patient button. The Merge Details ... dialog opens:
    1. Type part or all of the patient’s last name and click Search.
    2. Select the check box next to the patient who should receive the event.
    3. Click OK. The Confirm Merge dialog opens.
  7. Click Yes. The dialogs are closed.
