Adding Event Attachments

Events are attached to surveillance files to help build a complete picture of the patient’s infection. For example, a prior admission, the results of two lab tests and a surgical procedure performed last week may all be relevant to the same infection. Events can be added from two places in RL6:Infection: the surveillance file, as described below, or an Inbox page using the History and Activity links (see Adding Activity to an Event for details). An event can be added to multiple files because the same surgical procedure, for example, may result in two different infections.

To add event attachments from the surveillance file:

  1. Open a file (not shown, see Accessing Surveillance File Details) and scroll down to the Event Attachments section.
  2. Click Add to the right of Event Attachments.
  3. Use the following controls on the right to limit or expand the activity shown:
    • Check Boxes – to limit the activity to the selected categories.
    • More>> link – to expand the activity in six month increments.
  4. Check the box next to the event you would like to attach to the surveillance file.
If the event has already been added to the current surveillance file, such as the MRSA 11/24/2009 event shown in this example, the record cannot be selected.
  5. Click OK. The selected events are attached to the file. See Making Events Reportable for details on choosing which event is reportable.
  6. To remove an event, check the box next to the event and click the Delete link.
