Navigating the Form Designer

FormsClosedA number of fields grouped together by sections to allow users to enter and store data related to a patient or employee event. You can define multiple forms for a module. Forms fall into two categories: submission forms (i.e. for front line entry users) and management forms (i.e. for file manager users). Management forms contain the same data as submission forms with added sections for follow-up investigations and resolutions and outcomes. and sections have a hierarchical structure: sections appear within forms; clusters within sections; and elements within clusters. Popup Grid elements behave like forms within a form because they have their own sections, clusters and fields for determining field layout in the dialog box. Overarching form design is controlled by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to ensure for a uniform presentation with some style attributes exposed in the Properties area for modest design changes.

Prerequisites:The 'Forms' role function must be enabled.

  1. Designer – the Form Designer is used to order the section templates. The Section Designer is used to define what fields and other elements appear on the form.
  2. Links – used to Preview or Save the form or section.
  3. Structure – notice the hierarchical structure of the form: [a] forms are the top-most level (one per form); [b] sections are collapsible areas used to group similar information; [c] clusters allow for further grouping of form elements; and [d] elements are the fields and elements used to collect data.
  4. ContextClosedThe type of records that will be examined for reporting purposes, such as surveillance files, surgical procedures, central line insertions, etc. The values contained in other reporting drop-down lists change based upon the selected Context. Menu – click the caret icon (^) to see the menu used to add, reposition or remove form/section elements. The options on this menu change based on where it was accessed (e.g., section vs cluster, Form Designer vs. the Section Designer, etc.) See Form Element Context Menus.
  5. Properties – a series of tabs used to control the item’s behavior. Tabs and the attributes they contain change based on the selected element. For example, in the Form Designer section attributes are read only but may be edited in the Section Designer.
