Sorting FIM Views

When you create or modify a personal view on the File Interchange Management page, you can determine how packages should be sorted. In the Columns tab, the Columns & Order section (see example) shows all the columns in the order that they are displayed. For the File Interchange Management page, these columns are fixed. In the Sort Order & Priority section, File ID is the column by which data is sorted in descending order, by default. This means that, in the Views grid, the highest-numbered ID will appear at the top of the list while the one with the lowest is displayed at the bottom of the list. If, for example, you wanted to add Package Name as a secondary sort in ascending order (i.e. A to Z), packages would first be sorted by File ID, then by Package Name in alphabetical order.

Prerequisites: The 'Allow access to FIM' role function must be enabled.

To change the sort order of your view:

  1. Go to the Columns tab in the Properties dialog.
  2. In the Columns & Order section, check the box next to the column that will determine the sort order.
  3. Click the right arrow button. The selected column is added to the Sort Order & Priority section. Then, in the drop-down to the left choose Ascending or Descending.
  4. (To remove a sort column) Select the column from the Sort Order & Priority section and click the left arrow button.
  5. (To change sort priority) If there are multiple columns for sorting, drag and drop the column heading up or down the list to determine the primary sort, secondary sort etc.
  6. Click Save. The View grid refreshes and displays tasks according to the sort order.
  7. Tip: In the View grid, you can click on the arrows in the sort columns to change between ascending and descending order.
