Creating and Viewing a File from the Inbox

The Follow-UpClosed1. (For Infection) Another term for a surveillance file, which is created when the user selects Yes from the Choose a follow-up action control. 2. (For RL6) A file related action taken after the file has been submitted. Examples of follow-ups include investigative notes, meetings with different parties, consultation with patient family. Actions area is used to create a new surveillance file with details from the associated event. You may also create a surveillance file manually, for when lab results come back from outside the lab system, an infection is diagnosed without supporting lab results or surveillance activities need to be recorded for the patient.

To create and view a file from the Inbox:

  1. Access an inbox and search for events (not shown, see Selecting Search Criteria).
  2. For an event that requires follow-up, select the Yes radio button. The Is follow‑up action required area flashes, denoting that your selection has been recorded. A new surveillance file is created with the status New.

    Note: To create a surveillance file, click the Create New File link in the patient menu next to the patient's name (not shown).

  3. Complete the Action Reason field with the purpose of the follow-up and click Save. This value is added to the surveillance file and the View File link appears.
  4. If desired, click the View File link. The View File dialog opens.
    The View File link appears when the Yes radio button is selected. When viewing processed events, click Yes again to show the View File link.
