Importing Constraint Sets from Excel

Rather than working through the RL6 interface to create field combinations, you can export a constraint set and then enter the combinations in Microsoft® Excel®. When you export the constraint set, one worksheet appears with the combination; additional worksheets appear for each field in the constraint set. This is the format that is required when importing constraint sets. To ensure that the format is correct, RLDatix recommends that you start by exporting the constraint set. Make your modifications on that spreadsheet and then to import your field combinations.

Prerequisite: You must have the 'Constraints' role function enabled.

  1. Access the Constraints page (Managing Constraints) and open the Constraint Set for which you would like to import field combinations.
  2. Click Import From Excel. The Import Constraints from Excel dialog opens.
  3. Click Browse and navigate to the location on your computer or network where the file is stored.
  4. Select the file and click Open. The file path is entered into the Excel File field.
  5. Click Import. The file is scanned for errors, which if detected, are displayed in the Status field.
  6. Note: Empty rows or values are ignored during the import process and duplicate pick list cell values are not added. If new pick list items have been added to the spreadsheet, they will be added to the appropriate pick list in the application.
  7. Click Save to update the constraint set.
