Using Constraints in an Expression

Fields that are used in a constraint set can be configured to use their hierarchical relationship in Expression Editor, in advanced search or when defining report conditions, for example. When a constraint field has been enabled for this purpose, the drop-down arrow becomes a magnifying glass.

To use constraints in an expression:

  1. Access Expression Editor (Expression Editor Overview).
  2. Select a field from the drop-down list that is associated with a constraint set. You will see a magnifying glass in the Select Value field. The RL6 AdministratorClosedThe person in charge of managing and maintaining RL6. must also enable the constraint to be used in expressions (see Managing Constraints for details).
  3. Select an OperatorClosedThe instructions used to evaluate a number, date or text string: greater than (>), equal to (=), or contains, to name a few. Operators are use to build ad hoc searches, report parameters and alert conditions. (Expression Editor Operators).
  4. Select from the filtered list of values for the required field.
  5. Click OK. The item populates the Value field in the expression (not shown). Continue building the expression (Building an Expression).
