Nested Expression Editor Statements

Statements can be linked together using AND and OR connectors to create more detailed and complex expressions. When multiple connectors are used, expressions will be displayed as nested groups where each group represents an organized layer of statements.

When nesting expression editor statements, keep the following in mind:

  1. The first statement in an expression appears as one line formed by a Field, an OperatorClosedThe instructions used to evaluate a number, date or text string: greater than (>), equal to (=), or contains, to name a few. Operators are use to build ad hoc searches, report parameters and alert conditions. and a Value.
  2. The second statement is at the same level as the first statement and is added after you select the AND or OR connector. Statements connected by AND means all conditions in the group of statements must be met. Statements connected by OR means one or more conditions in the group of statements must be met.
  3. If you click New Line or Duplicate Line instead of AND or OR, a new statement is added to the same grouping (not shown).
  4. After you create two or more statements, you can start nesting statements using And and OR connectors.
  5. When both AND and OR connectors are used in an expression, statements will appear nested in multiple layers for easier reading. Statements can always be rearranged or moved to other nested levels by clicking and dragging them by their drag handles (Organizing Expression Editor Statements with Drag and Drop).
