Creating Alerts

An alert has several attributes that need to be configured before it can be implemented. The first question you have to answer is, “what kind of alert do I want to create?”

Prerequisite: You must have the 'Admin - AlertsClosedA warning that is sent out in the form of an email and/or an in-system alert notification under defined circumstances (e.g. an abnormally high number of complaints or incidents are reported, a high severity incident occurs, or when a file is ignored for a given period of time). Alerts are created by your administrator and are triggered at defined intervals (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly).' and 'Create Alerts' functions enabled for your role.

To create an alert:

  1. Go to Logged In As> Admin Center >Alert Management. In the Alert Management page, click the New button. The Create Alert Prompt dialog opens.
  2. Select the Module from the list.
  3. Choose an alert type:
    1. Follow-up Activity Alert – notifies you when a change has been made to a follow-up activity.
    2. HL7ClosedHealth Level-7 is an international set of open standards used to format data and content, allowing different health information systems to easily and effectively communicate with one another. ADTClosedAdmission, Discharge and Transfer data. Alert – notifies you when there is a specified ADT activity for patient with an existing file.
    3. No Activity Alert – notifies you when a file remains in one state for a defined number of days. For example, you can be alerted when files remain in the state (or New status) for more than five days.
    4. Surveillance Alert – notifies you when the conditions of an alert definition are met. A surveillance alert can only be created in RL6:Infection.
    5. Volume Alert – notifies you when more than a specified number of files have been reported/created in a predetermined time frame, such as when more than five falls (or health-care acquired MRSA infections, in RL6:Infection) occur within a 24-hour period.
    6. Watchdog Alert – notifies you when a file is created for a specific condition. For example, you may want to be notified every time a new file with a Severity 1 is reported or a bloodstream infection file created.
  4. Note: The configuration of the Content tab changes based on your selection here. Once you create the alert, the type cannot be edited.
  5. Click OK. The Alert Properties dialog opens to allow you to define the properties for the alert (See Alert Properties).
