Creating Generic Scopes

You can compare attributes specified in user profiles (Creating, Editing or Copying a User) with values entered in a file to create a generic scope that can be applied to many users. When these values match, the file is within the user’s scope. A scope that prevents users from seeing files submitted outside of their own department is shown below. The user’s RoleClosedAn attribute assigned to your user profile that determines the pages and functionality to which you have access in RL6., ID (User_PK, not login ID), fullname, DepartmentClosedThe department or section within the laboratory that performs the tests., Site and Location3 through Location10 attributes can be used to create generic scope expressions.

Note: Use generic scopes to simplify user administration. Edit user attribute(s) rather than scope to control file access.

  1. Access the ScopeClosedThe files to which you have access. Definitions page (Scope Definitions) and choose the module.
  2. Click the New action button. The Scope Details dialog opens.
  3. Enter a Scope Name and Scope Description (Scope Name is mandatory and must be unique for the module).
  4. Select Calculated from the Scope Expression field. The Expression Editor dialogopens:
    1. Select a Field type that exists on the form (such as Location) from the list.
    2. Select equals from the OperatorClosedThe instructions used to evaluate a number, date or text string: greater than (>), equal to (=), or contains, to name a few. Operators are use to build ad hoc searches, report parameters and alert conditions. list.
    3. Type [Treatment/Exam Room] into the Value field.
  5. Select New Line if you want to add more statements. Select And or Or to create nested statements (Nested Expression Editor Statements).
  6. Click OK to set the expression and return to the Scope Details window.
  7. Click OK to save your changes.
