Step 2: Determine if Abnormal

A number of rules are applied during this phase. There are lists of phrases used to allow comments and negative growth statements to be identified. Reference ranges in some cases are also used to determine whether the result is abnormal. The laboratory may also tag a result as being abnormal. These phrase lists contain “regular expressions” and should not be modified by users. Any changes by RL to these phrases is checked against a number of tests first before applying them.

Rules for Abnormal Results

  • Summary – the RLDatix integration engine process reviews the laboratory result to determine if it is abnormal and translates it ready for upload into RL6:Infection.
  • Purpose – to allow results that are not abnormal or of interest to be displayed only in the Patient Record.

Note: See Related Pick List Descriptions for details on which pick lists are used during this step.

  1. Example – only the culture result (and possibly gram stain) is available and not formal organism identification in this result.
  2. Example – only gram stain (no culture result and no formal organism identification) available in this result.
