Disease or Organism Fields

This grid contains the main details about an organism detected as part of the surveillance for infections:

Field

Description

Acquisition Source

Whether the infection is Community Acquired, Health-care Acquired or Maternally Acquired.

Case Classification

The class of clinical case definition used to determine the certainty of the disease: Confirmed Case, Probable Case or Suspected Case.

First Isolated

The date the first instance of this infection is known to have occurred in the patient.

Organism

The name of the organism identifier. If the specific organism has not been identified this can be set to Unknown – or some other value as determined by your organization’s infection control policies.

Multi-Drug Resistant

If the organism is known to be resistant to a significant number of antibiotics, this should be set to Yes. It is used to differentiate between sensitive and resistant strains of the same organism.
